ABSTRACT
This paper aims to show the defense of confessional seal by australian catholic Church. A special attention is given to australian state legislation on mandatory reporting and sexual abuse of minors, which priests heard also in the act of confession. The article specially considers the sacrament of penance as a matter between God and a penitent, where the confessor is a mediator. The demand on confessors to report to civil authorities the confessional matters is one of the latest attacks on religious freedom and libertas Ecclesiae.
