ABSTRACT
In Spain the issue of religious symbols in public life has long been one of the tests of the resilience of the principle of secularism, and touches with peculiar intensity on the issue of the Islamic veil. In the absence of legislation regulating the presence of religious symbols in the public sphere in a general way, this essay examines a selection of jurisprudence on the subject, placing it in the context of the State’s respect and protection of fundamental individual freedoms
