ABSTRACT
The norms of the Church make provision for the case of two liturgical festivities of high rank coinciding on the same day (occurrentia): one of the two is transferred to another day. What initially appears to be a rather marginal or (at best) liturgical issue, may have consequences of a moral nature or sometimes even in terms of labor law, namely when holidays of obligation (cfr. can. 1246 § 1) are affected. The article deals with the handling (historical and also recent) of such specific cases by the authorities of the Church, pointing out some questions that might arise therefrom on the occasion of future occurrentiae, not least in view of the implementation of can. 1247 in the relevant provisions of Vatican labor law.
