The “otto per mille” introduced in 1984 with the Concordat revision, allows taxpayers to allocate a share of their income tax (IRPEF) to religious denominations or the State for social purposes. While it funds cultural and welfare projects, it faces criticism over transparency and fund allocation. The debate revolves around its continuation, reforms for fairness, and potential abolition in an increasingly secular society.
