Abstract
The contribution examines the contribution of French canon law in the phase preceding the Pious-Benedictine codification of 1917, in which Deshayes and Pillet, together with other French canonists, played an active role. Among the various contributions, we also note that of the French Jesuit Henri Auffroy, one of the main supporters of the movement for canonical codification in France and for the persistence of the reference to rationabilitas in the mesh of the codification process.
