ABSTRACT
This essay examines the structure and role of the Dicastery for Promoting Integral Human Development (DPIHD) in light of the curial reform of Praedicate Evangelium and the synodal journey. The author highlights how this body goes beyond a simple merger of past councils to promote a form of charity deeply connected to evangelization. It operates “in agreement” with the Secretariat of State on complex issues such as migration and conflict, while interpreting the “signs of the times” through a circular internal structure based on listening, research, and feedback. Finally, the DPIHD is presented as a paradigm for the role of the laity: with an organic structure made up of 90% laypeople and a strong female presence in leadership positions, it puts into practice the reform’s decision to detach governance power from Holy Orders in favor of the missio canonica, opening new and decisive perspectives for ecclesial co-responsibility.
