In a time torn apart by conflict, religious denominations play a leading role in guiding and shaping consciences. By analysing the heritage of Jewish and Christian thought in its historical development and most recent acquisitions, this research aims to explore the roots of the concept of iustum bellum, understood as a set of conditions that legitimise the use of war and regulate its conduct, limiting its excesses and pushing towards a negotiated solution. Particular attention will be paid to reconstructing the interventions of the main religious authorities on the theme of peace, understood as a divine gift and a duty of the faithful.
