SERIES “DIRITTO E RELIGIONI”SILVIA BALDASSARRE 42 – La libertà religiosa nei luoghi di lavoro tra tutela antidiscriminatoria e strategie di inclusione
The issue of relations between China and the Holy See is ancient, complex and significant. Ancient, because the first Christians arrived in China between the sixth and seventh centuries. Complex, because the evangelisation of the Chinese people has been heavily influenced by political, social and economic changes in the country, by European colonialism, and by cultural differences between East and West. It is significant because the missionary experience in China has shaped the Catholic way of proclaiming the Gospel, has influenced and continues to influence the current geopolitical situation, and today offers the international community elements for identifying a paradigm for interaction with the People's Republic of China. This is the theme of the essays in this volume, which brings together the proceedings of the series of seminars held in 2022 at the Department of Legal and Economic Studies of the Sapienza University of Rome as part of the research project “China-Holy See relations between past and future”, directed by Prof. Beatrice Serra. In order to offer a diversity of approaches and interpretations, the series of seminars involved the participation of experts in the field and professors and scholars from various state and pontifical universities, deliberately involving different generations of speakers. The result was a rich and lively debate which, one hundred years after the first and only Council held in China, the Council of Shanghai in 1924, opens up future reflections.
