ABSTRACT
Botero describes the economic culture in the age of the Counter-Reformation, when industry was the basis of a social model in which economic initiative, productivity and trade were encouraged and considered positive elements. Botero re-proposes the development model followed by Italian mercantile centres since the commercial revolution of the late Middle Ages. A model that at the beginning of the 17th century still appeared solid (the Italian economy was experiencing its San Martino Summer) and even more widely exalted.
