ABSTRACT
The contribution addresses the issue of the effectiveness of human rights in the environmental field in light of the most recent developments in the case law of the European Court of Human Rights, with particular reference to the judgment Cannavacciuolo and Others v. Italy of 30 January 2025, and explores the role of religious denominations as emerging actors in the processes of building climate justice and a participatory environmental democracy. Through practices of advocacy, awareness-raising, and cooperation with public institutions, religious denominations contribute to the development of governance models based on participation, collaboration, and shared responsibility for the protection of natural ecosystems, also in the interest of future generations
