ABSTRACT
Beauty plays a central role in the liturgy. This article, starting from the current limits at a fundamental and epistemological level the pertinence of the juridical domain to the acceptability of material aspects of the liturgy. Respect for the principles congenial to ecclesial sacred art (e.g., the symbolic as well as functional value of sacred objects, the interaction and dialogue between the different elements, and the distinct figurative and representational character) impose precise requirements for the protection and safeguarding of the rights of recognition and appreciation by the faithful. The dimension of justice concerns only the process of objectito aesthetic values. The promotion of beauty requires above all inspiration, sensitivity and artistic training, and the refinement and convergence of liturgical and canonical science can indeed greatly contribute to the increase of the liturgical common good.
